AI-Powered Document Intelligence for AirWorks
About the Company
AirWorks operates in the aviation and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) sector. Its teams work with large collections of technical, financial, safety, and operational documents. As the document library and number of users grew, AirWorks needed a faster way for employees to find reliable information while maintaining strict controls over sensitive records.
Challenges
- Employees had to search through lengthy documents manually to find specific information.
- Teams needed a way to ask questions in plain language and receive direct answers.
- Financial, MRO, safety, and compliance-related documents required strong access controls and auditability.
- AI responses needed to be grounded in AirWorks’ own documents, with citations employees could verify.
- The platform needed reliable releases, continuous monitoring, and a tested recovery plan.
Solutions
- AceCloud designed and deployed a serverless, event-driven Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) platform on AWS.
- Automated document ingestion: Uploading a document to Amazon S3 triggers an AWS Lambda function that processes it, divides it into chunks, and creates embeddings.
- Semantic search: Amazon Bedrock Titan Embeddings and Amazon OpenSearch Service help retrieve relevant passages based on meaning.
- Grounded AI answers: The platform sends retrieved document passages and a user’s question to Amazon Bedrock Claude 3 Sonnet to generate answers with source citations.
- Secure user access: Amazon Cognito and multifactor authentication protect access to the application.
- Auditable records: Amazon DynamoDB records queries and responses, with logs exported to Amazon S3 for retention and review.
- Usage and compliance reporting: Amazon Athena supports SQL-based analysis of query logs, while Amazon QuickSight provides dashboards for usage, response quality, and cost.
- Private network design: A production VPC across two Availability Zones separates the application tier from backend services. Least-privilege IAM roles restrict service access.
- Controlled deployments: CI/CD pipelines test and stage changes. Blue/green releases and automatic rollback help protect the live platform during updates.
- Security monitoring: CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config, Security Hub, and GuardDuty support monitoring, audit logging, and security checks.
- Disaster recovery: Automated backups, cross-region replication, and regular recovery testing support the platform’s defined recovery objectives.
- Responsible AI controls: Responses are grounded in retrieved AirWorks documents, include citations, and are designed to support human decisions rather than replace them. User feedback helps guide ongoing quality reviews.
